Easy to Fall Behind When Traveling

I have to admit, it's been harder to keep up with the blog posts than I expected it to be when I decided to start a campaign blog. Since I last posted, I've been to a number of counties and school districts. It's truly amazing how diverse Kansas is from north to south and east to west, but it's all rural. My husband told me to pick up a coffee on my way home from Marshall county last week, and I wondered where I was supposed to do that... that rolling hill or the next one. It was a beautiful and peaceful drive, no coffee needed!
I have met so many wonderful educators, superintendents, parents and kids who love their schools that it makes my heart so happy! Then we talk about the realities of the State failing to pay the required SPED funding and how it's impacting their schools, the difficulties in recruiting and retaining quality teachers, the frustration over legislation being enacted without forethought on how it impacts rural schools or the funding on for implementing it. And always at the forefront of my mind, the lack of full accessibility in nearly every school I visit.
So what's next? The end of August is busy. We'll be back to Marysville on the 24th! I plan to visit Sherman and Thomas Counties again on the 26th, and then it's off to Lawrence on the 28th for a Kansas Board of Education District 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 Meet & Greet/Fundraiser!
